Canberra Centenary Cake Competition

A magnificent Canberra Centenary Cake Competition!

The  Canberra Centenary Celebration on Saturday 18 May 2013 was a great success.   The party was hosted by M16 Artspace, at 21 Blaxland Crescent, Griffith and involved a large range of art exhibitions, live music from school bands, performances by Jumptown! Swing, a sausage sizzle sponsored by the Baptist Community Services, a café-coffee cart, and more.  The parkland formerly known as Section 51 was officially named Blaxland Park by Shane Rattenbury, MLA for Molonglo and Minister for Territory and Municipal Services.   John Blaxland, a great great great grandson of Gregory Blaxland, after whom the Park is named, also spoke.

The Canberra Centenary Cake Competition, part of the festivities, was a smash success with 37 entries over four categories and creativity galore.  A monumental task for the three judges who sampled each cake and viewed spectacular presentation.  Highlights included “The Chookettes”, “SkyWhale in the Clouds” and “Cake Burley Griffin”.

A big thank you for all who entered and we hope you enjoyed the experience — we loved you being part of the Centenary Street Party.
