The Woden Valley Community Council (WVCC) has formerly made an objection to the Development Application 201528749  to demolish the Woden Basketball stadium. This is yet another facility to close in Woden‘s northern precinct that follows on from the lawn bowls, tennis courts and Pitch n Putt. The Woden Basketball courts have been used not just for basketball but also badminton roller derby, has also held markets and been a venue for live bands.

The report into ACT indoor sports facilities  stated that if Woden is to become a focus for high density living then it needs to be supported by a range of sporting and recreation facilities. This was also a recommendation in the background consultant studies to the Woden master Plan.

Another option is the possible relocation and reuse of the structure to a site close to the town centre.

The objection letter is here.
