Next Meeting – 4 Sep – Minister Berry will discuss indoor sports facilities at Woden’s public meeting

Communities that express their views get better outcomes than those who don’t!

The next Woden Valley Community Council meeting will be held at 7pm on Wednesday 4 August 2019 at the Woden Southern Cross Club. Minister Berry will discuss matters in her portfolio including schools and indoor sports facilities. It is important for the community to attend these public meetings to hear what is happening in their community and to provide their views, expectations and concerns directly to Cabinet Ministers.

The Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate will consult the community on the proposed cycle network around the Woden Town Centre and Canberra Town Planning will update us on the work they are doing around a process to deliver upgrades to the public realm.

In addition, the Lighthouse Business Innovation Centre will let us know about Floriade in the Suburbs and the Woden Business Showcase to be held in the Town Square on 5 October 2019.

There is a lot happening in Woden which is the major hub for the south of Canberra. It is an ideal location for services and facilities due to its centrality and accessibility to communities across Canberra.

While the Woden Town Centre has been identified for higher density living, the community facilities are not keeping up. A CIT and an indoor sports stadium would replace the facilities that have been closed and contribute to creating a contemporary urban precinct that will promote physical health, improve mental health, grow personal development, strengthen our communities and grow the economy in Canberra’s south.
