AGENDA & DETAILS – Next meeting of the WVCC— Wednesday, 3 October

You are invited to the WVCC public meeting at 7pm on 3 October 2018 at the Southern Cross Club.

We will receive an update on the Better Suburbs Statement and the Play Spaces Forum. The Forum will determine a framework to help guide current and future play space funding decisions and allocate up to $1.9 million to play spaces from the 2018-19 budget. The WVCC thanks the ACT Government for the opportunity to attend this Forum which has been a terrific way to involve the community in decision making.

Amalgamated Group will tell us about ‘The Oaks’, their new proposal for apartments on the homestead site of the Eddison family (now the Yamba Club). Two oak trees on this site have cultural heritage because they commemorate the three Eddison brothers who lost their lives during the Second World War. The property was resumed in the late sixties for the creation of the Woden Town Centre.

Purdon Planning will inform us about their proposal for a new crematorium, funeral home and associated facilities in Symonston. This is of significance to the south side of Canberra as the Woden Cemetery is reaching capacity.

We will also learn about the Climate Change National Citizen Science Project from the EPSDD. The project will see scientists working with communities to help improve urban microclimate. Understanding microclimate is critical to gaining knowledge of how buildings, street layouts and greenery affect temperature, wind and moisture in our neighbourhoods. The project will measure and record microclimate data from three locations (Woden, Tuggeranong and Gungahlin) in summer 2018-19. EPSDD is seeking to recruit volunteers to help carry out this research.

Come along with your ideas and be part of the renewal of Woden.
