Next meeting of the WVCC— Wednesday, 5 December

You are invited to the WVCC public Christmas meeting for 2018. Please join us at 6.30pm on Wednesday 5 December 2018 at the Southern Cross Club for some snacks prior to the 7pm meeting.

Officials from Transport Canberra and City Services will attend the meeting to provide us with an update on public transport, including the bus network and light rail stage 2. We will also hear about the progress of the improvements to the cycle network and the views of the Directorate on traffic flows in Woden, particularly around Launceston Street and Irving Street.

We have asked the ACT Government to undertake a traffic study to investigate the impacts of the residential towers, 19 earmarked to date, on the congestion in the area and what remedial actions could be undertaken to enable better traffic flows. We continue to request that densification is done well with public spaces and community facilities included in the planning.

Woden is changing and it is a great time to get involved with the future of our community. We have some great residents groups that have demonstrated their skills for effective advocacy. The Curtin Residents Association achieved zoning that retains the sun in their public square and the Farrer Residents Association has been granted over $200,000 for a bike path and play spaces in Farrer.

For all the scooter riders out there – the Regional Scooter Competition will be held on 16 February 2019 at the Woden Skate Park.

For further information on Woden issues follow the WVCC on Facebook and Instagram.
