Development retains a minimum 3 hours solar access to at least 1,000m2 of the town square area between the hours of 9am and 3pm on the winter solstice (21 June).
The perimeter of the Woden Town Square is zoned for 28 storey buildings and is allowed a minimum of 3 hours solar access on one quarter of the town square between the hours of 9am and 3pm on the winter solstice (21 June).
The Town Square is currently surrounded by 3 storey buildings (except for Lovett Tower) and sunny.
The WVCC objects to 28 storey around the perimeter of the Town Square because of the:
- overwhelming bulk and scale of 28 storey residential towers
- the overshadowing and the reduction of sun on the square
- the potential to limit entertainment and music events in the square
