Representatives from the ACT Planning & Land Authority (ACTPLA) will present its proposal to change the residential codes in the Territory Plan as released for public consultation under Draft Variation to the Territory Plan Number 303. The Variation proposes a number of changes including more flexible rules for constructing second dwellings on residential blocks and more certainty in defining objectives for assessing development proposals and improved solar access.

Most importantly it allows for more density in existing suburbs by reducing the minimum size of blocks which can be used for dual occupancy and multiunit development. The draft Variation, if accepted by the Minister and the Assembly, will increase the densification of residential areas in RZ2 zones in established suburbs. Comments on the proposals, which can be found on ACTPLA’s website, close on 23 August.
The ACT Government is proposing to release vacant land in the Woden Valley for sale in 2011. A representative from the Department of Land and Property Services will give a presentation on those proposals and seek comment from the community at the meeting. Residents can find out what vacant land the Government is proposing to sell for development in Woden.
WVCC believes that these two issues are of major importance for the future amenity of residents.
