Catherine Townsend and Soo Kim from Townsend and Associates Architects will be presenting concept proposals for developing the former YMCA site (now a childcare centre, tennis courts and Balloons Aloft) in Irving Street, Phillip at the next meeting of the Woden Valley Community Council on Wednesday, 4 May 2011 at 7.30 pm in the Aegean Room, Hellenic Club, Woden.

The proposal is for the construction of two buildings, one 12 storeys and the other nine storeys, comprising 278 residential apartments (of one, two and three bedrooms) and a childcare centre to replace the existing centre. The Council strongly encourages Woden residents to take this opportunity to hear about the proposals and express their views prior to the submission of a development application.

Also, the Southern Cross Pitch and Putt Club in Phillip will present its proposal for changing lease clauses as a first step towards redeveloping the Club’s site. A master plan reflecting the possible future uses of the site (such as a gymnasium and hotel) can be seen in Development Application 201119563 on the ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA) website. The deadline for submitting comments to ACTPLA is 18 May 2011.

All are most welcome to attend the Woden Valley Community Council meeting on 4 May.
